Resources for online learning

Dear parents and fellow teachers,

Here we would like to provide you with the most comprehensive supply of resources for supporting additional learning at home.

You can find three categories: safety first resources, a long list of online and downloadable resources and internet safety guidelines.

Parents and children – If you should need any advice on how best to use these resources please contact Miss Niki or speak to your English class teacher who will be happy to help.

PEARSON UK PROVIDES A GREAT DEAL OF SUPPORT FOR PARENTS:

  • The Maths Factor –  your children can keep practicing their maths skills by having a go at Carol Volderman’s maths school online. We highly recommend it! It is now free for children between ages 4-11 until UK schools open again. https://www.themathsfactor.com/
  • Home-school Planner
Planners for each year group to help you plan a ‘school-like’ day at home with your children. With lots of suggestions for fun activities alongside links to learning, we hope this will help you to plan a day that works for you and your children.
  • Bug Club Reading
Bug Club, is proven to raise attainment – and loved by over a million children in the UK.
  • Science Bug
Fun activities to engage your children in science whilst at play.
  • Grammar and Spelling Bug
An English programme with spelling, punctuation and grammar activities across Year 1 to Year 6.
  • Year 4 Times Tables Check
The times tables check is an online test for children in Year 4, scheduled to take place in June 2020. Children must answer 25 questions on times tables from two to twelve. They have six seconds per question, with three seconds rest between each question, so the test should last less than five minutes.
  • Phonics Screening Check
Find out how to support your child with the Phonics Screening Check.
  • Looking after yourselves -Mindfulness
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed at this time. Some people will relish the idea of creating learning time at home whilst others will find it a challenge. The most important thing is to stay healthy in body and mind.

With children spending more time at home and using more online resources we have provided some useful links for parents to read about keeping your children safe online. The following websites provide information about how parents can help their children use the internet safely. The links also provide information about how to report any concerns and answer some questions parents might have about sites being age appropriate. The Think U Know website also has some online videos that help children understand about how to stay safe online. We have used these videos in school during our E-Safety units.
